This is a food bloggers guide to navigating black Friday, from hosting to plugins to camera equipment, props and kitchen equipment. Some great black friday deals for food bloggers can be found during the second half of November, and the weekend after Thanksgiving is the BEST time for them.
This can be an ideal time to invest in that new bit of camera equipment, some new props, new kitchen equipment, move to a new host (they have some AMAZING deals on right now, see below for our 2 tried tested hosting options) or even get that plugin you have heard everyone talk about.
Black Friday is no longer a US phenomenon, it’s a global rush to the shops and overloading of the internet to find the best deals. Being in the UK this is still fairly new to us but seems to becoming a bigger and bigger sales event.
OK so lets take a look at the deals we have uncovered so far.
Hosting companies know what they’re doing on black friday and have some really good deals for new customers. The 2 below are ones that we have tried and tested and rely on for our sites:
Siteground – Upto 75% Off Hosting.
Great for small to medium blogs, and a brilliant set-up if you are new to blogging. We used them for a couple of years on Kitchen Sanctuary and continue to use them for LivingTheBlog. Check out our Post on Page speed for how it helped us when we moved our site over to Siteground.
Here’s the deal:
Cloudways – 30% OFF FOR 3 MONTHS
Great for a slightly larger, growing blog (we moved to Cloudways when we starting getting around 500k page views a month). I cant say enough good things about Cloudways. Our site speed is consistent (yay!) and brilliant since we moved Kitchen Sanctuary over to them at the beginning of this year. They have loads of options. FYI we’re on the Vultr set-up.
Here’s the deal:
Themes, Plugins & Software:
When you hear the word Black Friday, your first thought might not be “YES! great time to buy a plugin” but it should be.
WP Recipe Maker – 30% OFF with code: FRIDAY18
If you haven’t got this yet and you are a food blogger who posts recipes you should. It automatically gives you the markup (a specific type of output) you need for Google to see your post as a recipe = getting you more traffic. The support from Brecht and the team is second to none, hands down the best support I’ve had from any blogging tools. Also they are continuously updating it with feedback from the community. Check out our new design using their new super easy-to-use recipe card designer on one of our posts over at KitchenSanctuary.
StudioPress Themes – 20% OFF
We have been using StudioPress Themes for KitchenSanctuary since we started. They have a great range of themes. We’re running Seasoned Pro from Feast with The Genesis Framework. FoodiePro (one of the most popular themes for food bloggers) is available through this site.
Social Warfare – 50% OFF CYBER MONDAY using code: CYMON2018
Social Warfare is still one of the best social sharing plugins on the market. It’s lightweight, easy to set-up and if you are moving to HTTPS/SSL (a must!!) or removing the dates from your URL then its is invaluable to recover your share counts.
For one day only (Monday, November 26) you can get 50% off all new purchases by using the coupon code: CYMON2018 The coupon will only be active on Monday from 12:00am EST to 11:59pm EST.
WPRocket – Probably the BEST Caching Plugin for WordPress – 35% OFF
We have tested many caching plugins over the years and this is one of the best out there and is well recommended by other experts too.
Yoast – 30% Discount
We use Yoast Premium as our Key SEO Plugin on both of our sites
Optinmonster – 35% OFF BLACK FRIDAY ONLY
